What's covered

A tailored PT insurance programme typically combines the covers below — sized to the way you actually work, not a one-size-fits-all gym scheme.

Essential

Public Liability £5m–£10m

Client injury during training, third-party property damage, equipment-related incidents. £10m is the market norm and required by most chain gyms.

Essential

Professional Indemnity £1m

Negligent programming, screening failures, contraindicated exercises, post-rehab work. The fastest-growing claim category in UK fitness.

Essential

Personal Accident

Your own injury cover — income protection when you can't train. Not covered by Public Liability and indispensable for sole earners.

Why use a specialist broker for PT insurance

Access to specialist insurers

Whole-of-market access including Lloyd's syndicates for non-standard work — post-rehab, online coaching, treatment risk, prior claims.

Claims advocacy when it matters

Direct line to John when a claim is made. No call centres, no claim portal queues. Disputed claims settled with broker representation.

Insurance Act 2015 compliance

Annual review of declared activities against actual operations. Prevents the cover-gap that 39% of UK PTs unknowingly carry.

Cover that matches how you work

Bespoke placement for hybrid online/in-person, medical-referred clients, post-rehab work, and specialist programming — not generic scheme cover.

Trainers with claims history welcome

Specialist markets routinely quote where mainstream CIMSPA schemes decline. Honest declaration, fair pricing, cover that responds.

Studio owners and growing businesses

Full commercial scope as you scale — EL, premises, BI, EPL, D&O. Mainstream PT schemes can't quote at studio level.

What will it cost?

Quick questions

Public Liability and Professional Indemnity are not legally required by UK law for self-employed PTs, but they are contractually required by virtually every gym, studio, leisure centre, and venue. Employers' Liability £5m minimum is legally compulsory if you employ staff or apprentices — £2,500/day HSE fines for non-compliance.

UK insurers require a minimum CIMSPA-endorsed Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training (or equivalent through a national awarding body like Active IQ). Additional qualifications (Level 4, Pre/Post-Natal, Sports Massage) should be declared. Insurers verify at claim stage — undeclared work outside your qualification scope can lead to claim refusal.

Only if specifically declared. UK insurers treat online coaching as a separate declared activity. If your policy declared "in-person training" but you now coach online, cover for online claims may be voidable under the Insurance Act 2015 fair presentation duty. The fix is a 30-second renewal conversation.

Only with specific declaration. Many mainstream schemes exclude post-rehabilitation work entirely. Where you work with physio referrals or medical-referred clients, declare it at proposal — specialist broker placement is often essential here.

Yes — specialist insurers and Lloyd's syndicates routinely quote where mainstream CIMSPA schemes decline. Pricing reflects the risk profile but cover is usually available. Always declare previous claims accurately; non-disclosure is a much bigger problem at claim stage than an honest loaded premium.

Most placements complete within 24–48 hours once we have your details. Same-day cover is possible for straightforward placements where qualifications and previous insurance details are ready. Studio owner placements typically take 2–5 working days due to the multi-line nature of the programme.
